Over the past four decades, Glaucoma Research Foundation has funded innovative and critical research projects in efforts to find better diagnostic tools, more effective treatments, and discoveries to lead us to a cure for glaucoma. Being diagnosed with glaucoma can be life changing and we know patients are counting on us to find a cure. Tonian McDonald will never forget when her doctor told her, "You have glaucoma." She was only 22. Tonian was finishing up her bachelor's degree in law in Jamaica, and came to realize that there were few resources in her community for people with glaucoma. That's when she took matters into her own hands. "The disease has actually given me a sense of purpose," Tonian says. "I've completed my bachelor's degree in law, received a scholarship to complete my Master of Business Administration in London, and wrote a book about glaucoma and healthy eating." Optimistic young people like Tonian inspire us and reinforce the need to work hard every day to find a cure for this blinding disease. Our dedicated scientists are making remarkable progress toward the development of new treatments to preserve vision and leading us closer to a cure.
