Her recent call was so inspiring that I wanted to share her story with you. Diagnosed at age four, Danielle lost all vision in her left eye and underwent multiple surgeries to save her right eye.
Then in her sophomore year at Carthage College in Wisconsin, Danielle experienced extreme pain and discomfort in her left eye. After weighing the advice of doctors, and many tearful family discussions, Danielle and her parents agreed to surgery that would remove Danielle's painful and sightless left eye.
But Danielle's fighting spirit, along with the dedicated support of her family, gave her the strength and confidence to succeed. She returned to college and earned her degree.
"Losing my eye was not the end of the world," she said. "It was definitely not easy, but I want people to know you can still be successful."
Glaucoma not only affects the person coping with the disease but also that person's entire family. And it is often the love and support from family and friends that makes all the difference.
