Happy New Year, Advocates!
We have a LOT of exciting ideas for 2019 at the Alzheimer’s Association and I can’t wait to share all of the advocacy opportunities with you all. I have a couple of events to bring to your attention for the start of the year:
The first event I’d like to share with you is our annual Alzheimer’s Day on the Hill at the Iowa State Capitol on Tuesday, February 5, 2019! The event is free, but RSVP is requested. You can register via web (http://bit.ly/ALZIowaDOTH) or via phone (515.440.2722).
Join us in filling the Capitol with purple and make your voice heard on the Alzheimer’s Association Day on the Hill! Our advocates and staff will learn more about our current state legislative priorities, the advocacy process, and how to connect with elected officials to help improve the lives of Iowans with dementia and the loved ones that care for them. We will spend time meeting with legislators and also raising awareness in the afternoon with a reception open to legislators and the public.
Agenda:
10:30-11:30 - Information session/training
12:00-1:00 - Lunch with advocates/staff
1:00-2:00 - Connect with legislators
2:00-4:00 - Open house/educational event in the rotunda
The other event I want to highlight is the Alzheimer’s Association’s annual Advocacy Forum in Washington DC, which occurs March 31-April 2, 2019! Advocates from every state gather in DC to raise awareness, receive Alzheimer’s education and advocacy training, network with other individuals to share experiences and attend congressional meetings. For more information about the Advocacy Forum, check out www.alz.org/forum. For questions, or if you are interested in a scholarship opportunity, please email alzadvocacyia@alz.org.
If you would like to be added to a list of more frequent advocacy communication or would like to be considered for a more active advocate role, please send an email to alzadvocacyia@alz.org.
Also, please follow along on our Twitter account - @ALZAdvocacyIA (Alzheimer’s Advocacy Iowa).
