Experiences of racism associated with cognitive decline Study results presented at AAIC suggested that facing structural, interpersonal and institutional racism is associated with lower memory scores and worse cognition in midlife and old age, especially among Black individuals. Researchers said structural racism that affects brain health includes lower income, lower-quality early life education, and less access to healthy food and proper health care. Help fight Alzheimer's Give Now Get Involved Your Local Community Iowa Chapter   High blood pressure during pregnancy may increase dementia risk Research reported at AAIC showed that high blood pressure disorders during pregnancy, such as hypertension and preeclampsia, may increase the risk of vascular dementia and accelerated brain aging. Among the findings, scientists said that women with a history of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy were more likely to develop vascular dementia compared to women with non-hypertensive pregnancies.
