Hello Tushar,
At the United Way of Tri-County we are currently experiencing a drastic increase in the number of people seeking food assistance, and the food pantry is facing an extraordinary need for more food so that we can continue to provide free groceries to our clients in-need like Maureen.
Maureen is a veteran and former volunteer at one of our food pantries who gladly helped us feed the hungry. Now, she’s on the receiving end.
Right out of high school, Maureen served our country in the U.S. Army. In the late 60’s, she and a group of girlfriends were walking by the recruiting office in Clinton, and they all decided to sign up. “I was the only one who got called, so I went and served my country,” Maureen recalls.
After her time in the Army, she returned home to Clinton and worked various jobs. “I earned enough to get me, my husband and the kids by.”
Maureen, 73, is now living in senior housing in Clinton. “I’m retired now,” Maureen said. “I’m on a fixed income. Anything helps.” Maureen is grateful for all that WHEAT does to help her. “I came here, and they’ve been very generous with the food, and a lot of Christmas presents for my grandchildren,” she said. “Anytime you call, they’re willing to help. They’re always there for you.” |
