Being able to tell clean code from messy code is still useful, but it's becoming something that tools can help with. Knowing what shape a program should have before anyone writes it is something AI still can't do yet. The best way to get better at AI coding might be to spend more time thinking about problems and less time thinking about prompts. The programmers that get the most out of these tools already knew what they wanted.

Agentic Verification (18 minute read)
Giving AI agents a way to independently verify their work heavily improves the quality of output. Write end-to-end tests that simulate real user flows and act as the ground truth. Use property-based testing to specify what should never happen and generate thousands of test cases that attempt to break those constraints. Require tests to run quickly and deterministically so that agents retry when the loop is slow or unreliable.
