We wanted to report back on the outcome of our campaign to raise $900,000 in order to hire researchers to analyze data from our Cancer Prevention Studies.
Thanks to a tremendous response from American Cancer Society supporters, we're well on our way to hiring new post-doc fellows to dig into the information we've gathered from more than 2.7 million Cancer Prevention Studies volunteers.
These researchers will scour over billions of data points that have been collected in these studies for the next breakthrough in cancer prevention. Here are just a few of the projects they'll be working on:
•
How exposure to certain chemicals may increase risk of some cancers
•
The impact diet, exercise, and obesity may have on cancer survival
•
The link between drinking coffee and cancer death rates
•
Whether walking can reduce risk of death from cancer to the same extent as other moderate or vigorous physical activity
The results of these studies will help prevent cancer—they will help save lives. All of this is possible thanks to the work of our researchers, the selflessness of our volunteers, and the dedication of our supporters. Thank you for everything you do to be part of the fight.
