Dr. Bedrood is a glaucoma and cataract specialist at Advanced Vision Care in Los Angeles. She received her undergraduate degree in biochemistry and chemistry at University of California Los Angeles. She completed a combined MD/PhD program at the Keck School of Medicine, USC. She received her PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology and finished her residency in ophthalmology at the Doheny/USC Roski Eye Institute. She completed her glaucoma fellowship at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.  Dr. Bedrood has been honored with multiple leadership and research awards. She is on the editorial board for Glaucoma Today as well as the American Academy of Ophthalmology's EyeNet publication, and she serves on the board for Women in Ophthalmology. She currently is in private practice at Advanced Vision Care in Los Angeles, CA as well as Clinical Assistant Professor at USC Roski Eye Institute and Los Angeles County Medical Center where she teaches ophthalmic surgical training to the residents. The food pantry and hot meal program serves thousands of individuals and families in Framingham and across the MetroWest region each month.  Ana Maria and her son, a disabled U.S. Marine veteran, are on a fixed income and rely on our help. “I always pray and say thanks to God,” Ana Maria said. “It’s a blessing, you know.” Ana has suffered two strokes and because she lost balance, uses a walker to get around. She loves coming to the Pearl Street Café for dinner, so they can sit down and be served a hot, nutritious meal. Food and meals at the Pearl Street Cupboard & Café are always free to anyone in need. Volunteers serve up a hot meal to families like Ana Maria's at Pearl Street Café Since extra SNAP benefits recently ended, keeping our shelves stocked is more difficult than ever. April 2023 Glaucoma and Your Emotional Well-Being If you have glaucoma, you may be experiencing emotional challenges in addition to the impact of glaucoma on your vision. Emotions are a normal, healthy part of the human experience.   Living with a chronic condition like glaucoma can cause you to feel a variety of emotions, including grief and loss. This may be due to an actual loss, such as loss of vision, or potential loss, such as a loss of what you thought your life was going to be like.   Or, if you're anticipating losing your vision, you may be experiencing some of those emotions leading up to that loss. If you're going through multiple losses at the same time, that can become what is called complicated grief. So, if you've lost a loved one right around the time that you received a glaucoma diagnosis, you might have different emotions related with both losses that might feel conflicting at times.   Depression, fear, worry, stress, and anxiety are also common emotions when dealing with glaucoma. But, like everyone else, you will experience happy emotions as well. Just because you are living with glaucoma doesn't mean that you can't also experience hope, joy, contentment, and gratitude.
