"For the last four months he's been suffering from the same fever."

When Radha's husband got sick, the illness threatened to ruin her family. When a breadwinner falls ill in rural India, the loss of income and cost of medical bills can often leave families vulnerable and even destitute. Thanks to supporters like you, Radha's story is a different one.

Radha and her husband own a small vegetable stand at a local market in Allahabad, India. Through Margdarshak, a microfinance institution and Grameen Foundation partner, Radha was able to secure a small loan at a reasonable interest rate to help grow her business and increase their daily income.

Radha used the extra income to pay for her son's school fees and opened a savings account to start building financial security for her family.

Some time later, Radha's husband contracted an infectious disease accompanied by a dangerously high, lingering fever. He was too sick to work, and needed constant care. Radha was forced to leave her work at the vegetable stand to stay home with him.

Because she and her husband were able to set aside extra income from their business, Radha has been able to to care for her husband, continue paying her son's school fees, and still have enough to cover her family's basic living expenses. Although the sickness of a family member is always a difficult experience, Radha's savings mitigated the damage to her family's finances and helped them face the future.

Radha's resourcefulness and determination saved her family. But what if Radha did not have access to credit and the ability to grow her business and contribute to her savings? How would her family have survived her husband's illness?

Tragically, there are many more women just like Radha who don't have access to financial services likes small loans and savings. For these families, an illness means crippling debts that they may never recover from.

You have the power to connect these women to resources that help them survive - and even thrive - after financial setbacks like illness. By renewing your support of Grameen Foundation's work today, you can change the story for a family like Radha's. Please don't wait - your gift, and the services it makes possible, are needed by a poor family right this minute.

We are so grateful that you've joined Grameen Foundation in the fight against poverty and hope we can count on you to ensure that poor women have the opportunities - and hope for a better future - that they deserve.

Sincerely,

Steve Hollingworth
President and CEO
