Want the 411 on Mass211, the state's free 24/7 informational and referral line?

Next Monday, Feb. 12, Gov. Maura Healey join Mass211, the United Way of Tri-County, the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), state legislators and local officials in celebrating 211 Day in Massachusetts. An informative ceremony will be broadcast live on Facebook from MEMA's headquarters in Framingham, highlighting Mass211's role in helping Massachusetts residents find assistance with everything from accessing food, housing or childcare to what to do in a natural disaster.

The live broadcast will start at 11:00 a.m. on Feb. 12 on Mass211's Facebook page (facebook.com/MA211). Gov. Healey will join via a pre-recorded video message, and Senate President Karen Spilka, D-Ashland, will speak about the value of residents being able to find answers by simply dialing 211.

"Bread Ladies" Come to the Rescue at the Marlborough Community Cupboard

Retiree Marie Royea and her cohort, Mary, are well-known at the Marlborough Community Cupboard as the "bread ladies"—and they're quite proud of that.

Every Thursday morning, they pick up a large load of loaves—everything from white bread to raisin to boules, bagels and even pastries like donuts, muffins and cupcakes—from Sudbury Farms in Sudbury. The store donates everything to MCC, and one of the two "bread ladies" will bring the bulk delivery right to the food pantry.

TeleCheck celebrates 10 years of calls to homebound seniors

At age 91, Shirley stands out with the pastel purple streaks in her white hair and way she emanates joy, especially over the phone.

As one of the four inaugural members of Call2Talk's TeleCheck team—and even known as its "mascot"—Shirley is proud to be "just a friendly voice" when she calls up a fellow senior to ask how their day is going. The team, made up entirely of older volunteers like her, checks in weekly with about 65 of their peers who are seen by Call2Talk's partner agencies Springwell and Advocates Inc. as needing support. They'll prompt conversations about anything from the weather to the person's wellbeing, and it starts to flow more naturally over time.

COMMUNITY CORNER

Marlborough Community Cupboard

Tremendous thanks to the team at Helen of Troy Careers in Marlborough for doing some double-duty volunteering for us yesterday. One crew decorated bags for our Ready to Read program at their home office, while another pitched in with unloading the truck, building shelves and sorting food and clothes over at our Marlborough Community Cupboard. What an impact you made in a few short hours!
