Maria first connected with Grameen Foundation after Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines and swept her and her family away.
She spent six hours clinging to a palm tree not knowing the fate of her family.
"When the storm cleared, everything was destroyed, and more than 2,000 people from the village died," says Maria.
Her home business, a general store, was gone. Maria had no shelter and no way to make money.
