On February 2nd, Glaucoma Research Foundation kicked off our sixth annual Glaucoma 360 Conference with a fundraising gala at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco, California. The next day, Glaucoma 360 founders and co-chairs Adrienne L. Graves, PhD and Andrew G. Iwach, MD opened the New Horizons Forum, greeting the the largest gathering of glaucoma professionals and industry trendsetters ever to attend the annual event since its formation in 2012.

"Glaucoma is hot, hot, hot!" Graves declared. "There has been tremendous change and innovation in glaucoma since we started Glaucoma 360. Back in 2012, no MIGS devices were FDA-approved, no strategics had acquired a MIGS company, and no ROCK inhibitors had made it beyond Phase 2. But over the past six years, there have been many advances in the glaucoma space including the development of novel treatments, introduction of new companies, important acquisitions and mergers, as well as several IPO's. As a result, the field has grown substantially and provides doctors and patients with more options to treat and manage the disease than ever before."

The co-chairs then announced that $520,000 had been raised during the Gala the night before, to be raised to $924,000 by the end of the New Horizons Forum. This is the most money raised by the Glaucoma 360 conference to date, and will support Glaucoma Research Foundation's sight-saving endeavors such as the Catalyst for a Cure, a unique collaborative approach to uncover new diagnostic and treatment options for glaucoma.

What followed was a day of glaucoma innovation. Doctors and researchers from all over the world made waves with daring new technology, drugs, devices, and ventures. Notable names like Drs. Joel S. Schuman, Steven Vold, Robert Fechtner, Ruth Williams, L. Jay Katz, and Jeff Goldberg moderated and presented, and the glaucoma community was once again reaffirmed in its dedication to managing and defeating the disease, inspired to dream big, make connections, and reach for a brighter future.

This newsletter focuses on recent discoveries and promising new treatment options that will help to improve the lives of glaucoma patients. You can be a part of these revolutionary changes by becoming a Vision Advocate and contributing to the promising research supported by Glaucoma Research Foundation.

  1. If you experience any symptoms of macular degeneration, contact with a good doctor of optometry immediately for a comprehensive eye examination. Your optometrist will perform a variety of tests to determine if you have macular degeneration or any other eye health problems. Best macular degeneration treatment
