Growing up in Nashville, Tennessee, chef, author and television personality Carla Hall spent every Sunday at her granny’s house, gathered with family around a table filled with food. In the new issue of ALZ magazine, Hall talks about how her granny, who lived with Alzheimer’s, influences how she cooks — from the heart.

Collective Soul’s Roland faces father-in-law’s Alzheimer’s
Musician Ed Roland Jr. of Collective Soul and his family are facing the realities of Alzheimer’s after his father-in-law’s diagnosis. In addition to encouraging other families to seek support, Roland is raising awareness of the disease through a T-shirt collaboration benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association.

Researchers study blood tests to detect Alzheimer’s
Results of new research showed that a blood test may be able to detect biological hallmarks of Alzheimer’s in older adults living with memory problems. While not yet available from doctors, experts say blood tests for Alzheimer’s could be easier, cheaper and more readily accessible than brain scans or spinal taps now used to detect those hallmarks.
