Hunger Action Month Ends Tomorrow

Tushar,

Hunger Action Month is almost over, but there is still more work to be done.

Food prices are out of control and access to healthy nutritious food is more difficult than ever for those living on the fringes of society. People who experience food insecurity disproportionately live in lower income communities. Not all are unemployed, many are working poor, doing their best in minimum wage jobs, but ineligible for benefits like SNAP. When pay day comes, they have tough decisions to make; pay for rent, electricity, medication, utilities, or food. Unfortunately food is most often the bill that goes unpaid. Parents are foregoing meals for their children in one of the richest nations in the world.

Visits at our three food pantries continue to rise, in fact we have seen 1,990 new families from January to August of this year alone. These are families who have never visited a food pantry before. With the current state of the economy we are expecting these numbers to continue to rise.

We need your help once again to meet the growing need in our community. Before Hunger Action Month passes by we invite you to take action and help us end hunger locally.
1. Donate - For every dollar you donate, we are able to provide $4 worth of nutritious food. To make a donation please visit uwotc.org/Feed

2. Volunteer - Volunteers are the backbone of our organization. To lend a hand visit uwotc.org/volunteer

3. Hold a Food Drive - Collecting non-perishable food items is a great way to help keep food pantry shelves full and is a great way to get others involved. Once everything is collected, call (508) 872-3291 for a drop off time.

4. Register for the Jack’s Abby United Way 5K - Walk or run, get outside and have fun. Your registration fee will support one of our United Way food pantries.
Register today at uwotc.org/5k

From all of us at the United Way of Tri-County,
Thank you.
Paul Mina,
President & CEO of the United Way of Tri-County
